The Grand Tour:

The following tour is arranged to start in the morning at or near LAX. Of course, we'll alter it to fit your requirements.

If we're picking you up at LAX, you'll be quite near to Venice Beach. It might be nice for you to have breakfast and stretch your legs with a walking tour of the Venice "boardwalk" in the morning before we begin the driving tour. There are a number of eating places in all price ranges.

Late morning we will pick you up again, go North through Santa Monica, drive up the coast to where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Ocean. You will then pass through scenic Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Westwood (where you will view some of the beautiful UCLA campus from the car), through Bel Air and Beverly Hills where you will see the homes of the stars, to Rodeo Drive, another fine walking area, if you wish. We will continue East to the Sunset Strip, and from there to Hollywood to see the Walk of Stars, the famous Chinese Theatre with the stars' footprints in cement, and the new Highland-Hollywood complex where the Academy Awards are held.

Across the street at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is a fascinating free permanent exhibit about the history of Hollywood. We will also take you up Laurel Canyon to Mulholland Drive where you will see fine views (weather permitting) of the city, the San Fernando Valley, the Hollywood Bowl, Madonna's house and the famous Hollywood sign. Nearby is Griffith Park with its famous Observatory (where part of "Rebel Without a Cause" was filmed), the L.A. Zoo and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. You may also wish to see [or eat at] the famous Farmers Market and visit the nearby famous and unique La Brea Tar Pits with the accompanying Page Museum.

Depending on time and your interests, it is possible to continue along Sunset Blvd. to downtown Los Angeles and the Plaza/Olvera Street area, where the city was founded. Chinatown and Little Tokyo are here, as well as the new Disney Hall designed by Frank Gehry, Los Angeles City Hall [the one you may have seen in "War of the Worlds"], and the architecturally important Union Station, where many movies have been filmed. It is also possible to visit one or more of the famous California Missions.
